MVP Testing
MVP
The Knoise MVP aims at testing a complete cycle of behavior change in a three-phase experience. From awareness of noise pollution and related behaviours to reconsideration and adoption of new ones.
The experience simulates the interaction with Knoise at a train station, on a train and, once arrived to destination, with a mobile app.
During the experience qualitative feedback has been gathered through shadowing. After the experience direct feedback has been given by participants by the means of a Premo Test and interviews.
Test 01
The experience
Users are put in front of a reactive visualization that mirrors their movements and tracks their body. A voice narrates how noise pollution can damage citizens' health in multiple scenarios by showing the effects on their reflection.
Technology
Kinect - Motion tracking
Touch Designer - Generative live visualization
Noise Cancelling Headphones - Narration
Feedback
Pros
Awareness about noise pollution before and after the experience has increased
Users report they are likely to make changes in their daily life
Cons
Users felt lowly involved while doing the experience
People didn’t feel like the experience was customized on them
Test 02
The experience
Users are asked to sit and have a conversation in a scenario that resemble the interior of a train. A speaker plays an incrementing train noise to make people raise their voices. When a certain threshold is met, a feedback and a prompt are given to make people aware of their behavior and to ask them to change it.
Technology
Arduino Nano + Microphones -> Noise threshold detection
LEDs -> Feedback
Touch Designer -> Visual Prompt
Speaker -> Environmental sound
Feedback
Pros
The environment suggested that the noise volume was raising, making people lower their voice
Users recognized the value of the experience
Cons
The position of the feedback was not enough effective
The algorythm of the mic should be improved to adapt to background noise
Test 03
The experience
Once out of the train scenario, users are asked to use the application to track their noise exposure. Realizing that the current noise level is too high they use the app once again to find a quieter place to work. As a final step the user can contribute to the noise map by measuring the noise on the spot and check what kind of rewards they can get with the points they earned.
Technology
Figma -> Hi-Fidelity Application Prototype
Feedback
Pros
Users recognize the value of the features in the application
The overal usability was good: people generally accomplished all the tasks they were given
Cons
Flexibility and efficiency of use of the app could improve
The app could benefit from shorcuts in the architecture
